The statistics are bleak regarding success rates of therapy for reunifying children
with parents they have rejected. When clients choose Collaborative, they don’t often
fit the pattern of alienating parenting, or children who have not seen a parent in
many months – or years. However, we do sometimes cope with children who are
reluctant to spend much time with one parent, and who strongly prefer the other.
These alliances are not always accepted or understood by the parents, and the
Collaborative team gets caught trying to figure out just what to do. This program
will review the literature about children who resist or refuse time with one parent,
and approaches we can take within the Collaborative process to help even these
toughest family patterns.
