Larry Gaughan has been involved in the alternative dispute resolution of family law cases for over 35 years. During the 1980’s he taught ADR seminars as a tenured full professor at George Mason Law School. He has been a divorce mediator since 1980 and has handled over 3,000 family mediation cases. In 2009 he was certified for collaborative practice and actively participates in CP groups. Larry has been a member of the Virginia State Bar since 1967 and is also certified as a family mediator by the Virginia Supreme Court. As an attorney he is rated by Martindale-Hubbell rated as a “Top Rated Lawyer in the DC/Baltimore Area” and as "AV® Preeminent™", which is their highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethical standards. During the academic year 1979-80 he studied family systems in the Department of Psychiatry of Georgetown University.
Larry is a member of the Professional Mediation Board of Standards of Academy of Professional Family Mediators. He has published over 20 articles on family law, family mediation and collaborative practice in the past three years and frequently speaks at professional education conferences.
