Kate Scharff, LCSW-C, LCSW, LICSW is an adult, child and family psychotherapist in Bethesda, MD. She dedicates a substantial portion of her practice to working with families going through separation and divorce.
She is a senior Collaborative Divorce coach and child specialist, mediator, divorce consultant and parenting coordinator, In addition to her clinical work, Kate regularly conducts national and international trainings for lawyers, psychotherapists, Collaborative professionals, and the general public.
She is the author of many articles and book chapters, and of four books: Therapy Demystified (Avalon, 2005); Navigating Emotional Currents in Collaborative Divorce (ABA 2010) andMastering Crucial Moments in Separation and Divorce (ABA 2017) (the latter two co-authored with Lisa Herrick, PhD), and We Need to Talk About Divorce: An Important Book About Separation, Stepfamilies and Feeling Heard (Macmillan, 2025), for middle school children and their parents.
